The Harbor
A Ministry of CAAA and The Anchor Fellowship
“Learn to do right! Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow.” –Isaiah 1:17
This is more than just a good idea. This is a commandment from God. The Harbor exists so the church can actively and practically live out God’s mandate to be a voice for the voiceless, a friend to the friendless, and to look out for those who need a helping hand. When refugees enter our country, they are faced with a wall of obstacles - a new language, a different culture, job searches, driving tests, new schools, and a lifestyle that may be completely different from the one they previously knew.
The Harbor is here not only to help these refugees, but to befriend them. We believe these relationships go both ways, and want to not only be a part of their lives, but have them be a part of ours. We welcome these new friends into our community, for community provides a safe harbor from loneliness and vulnerability.
“If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!” – Ecclesiastes 4:10
The Harbor facilitates partnerships with refugee families who have been grandfathered out of resettling programs. We organize groups within the church to visit, eat with, assist, and be friends with these families. The Harbor offers free training through World Relief to equip volunteers to practically and effectively connect with the families in need.
